Poppers – what is it?

This is a group of products created and sold for cleaning leather items and leather surfaces. Poppers contain a range of volatile and fast-acting substances. The scientific name for these substances is “alkyl nitrites.” Poppers are also commonly found at various parties and became known for their use in cleaning VHS heads, particularly among LGBTQ+ communities. It’s a substance that affects muscles and causes intense intoxication lasting only a few minutes. Today, poppers are especially popular at sex parties, gay clubs, and private events.

There are many myths about these leather-cleaning substances, but the fact is that they should never be ingested or introduced into the body in any way. These are highly corrosive, toxic, and harmful substances that can pose a serious threat to health and life. Extreme cases of intravenous or oral poppers use have resulted in immediate death. Inhaling them can cause heart attacks, collapse, or cardiac arrest in individuals with heart or respiratory conditions.

These agents should be used with moderation and in accordance with the manufacturer’s label. Contrary to popular belief, they are not psychoactive or addictive substances.

Short-term effect

When the bottle is opened or spilled, the released fumes have an intoxicating effect, depending on the composition and duration, and they induce a euphoric state. Sometimes it’s applied to a tissue and inhaled that way. Drinking the bottle’s contents is strictly forbidden and can result in death!

The vapor has a strong odor and produces a short but intense effect. The effects of poppers are noticeable after about 15 seconds and last for only about 3 minutes.

Other methods of use, such as oral ingestion, are extremely dangerous. The substance is highly irritating to the skin and may lead to coma or death.

Due to their chemical composition, poppers evaporate very quickly at room temperature. The evaporation point is very low, which is typical for alkyl nitrites. Bottles are stored in the refrigerator because they lose their effectiveness faster at room temperature.

The substance is in liquid form, has a yellowish color, and a very strong unpleasant smell. Poppers are laboratory-made and therefore synthetic.

The science has not yet fully defined how exactly the substance works in the body. Poppers cause a drop in blood pressure and relaxation of smooth muscles. The reason for its popularity lies in its improper use during sex: muscles, including those of the vagina and anus, relax, making penetration easier. The penetrating partner also experiences the act on a completely different level, and the orgasms are unmatched.
